Juventus are reluctant to lose versatile midfielder Weston McKennie on unfavorable terms in the summer transfer window as contract talks stall. Per Calciomercato, the Turin giants are keen to accelerate extension talks with the USMNT star in the coming weeks.
McKennie’s deal at the Allianz Stadium runs out in 2026. Therefore, his price tag would significantly drop this summer unless Juventus can tie him down to fresh terms sooner. After collecting 40 appearances in all competitions this season, McKennie has probably deserved a new contract.
Juventus are willing to reward the 26-year-old with a new deal and will soon offer him a salary boost to convince him to pledge his future to Turin. Indeed, an increase would see McKennie’s annual wages go from €2.5 million net per season to €3m. Meanwhile, the player’s stance remains uncertain.
Despite trying to offload him in 2023 and 2024, Juventus have heavily relied on McKennie’s versatility this season. With that in mind, the former Schalke 04 ace could favor a stay, especially after failing to attract interest from other top European clubs.
Several Major League Soccer franchises tried to lure McKennie back to the United States last year but to no avail. That prospect is now seemingly off the table as Juventus want to continue with the Washington native beyond the summer.
Unlike McKennie, Douglas Luiz could wave goodbye sooner than expected. The Italians have put the ex-Aston Villa midfielder up for sale after a hugely disappointing maiden season in Serie A.
