Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne has offered the full insight into the injury that hindered his progression in the first-team squad this season.
The 33-year-old has seen his ongoing season halted by injury at various points, following on from the last season that saw the Belgium international sidelined for around five months having undergone hamstring surgery.
With results taking a turn for the worst lately, and Manchester City having failed to win any of their last six matches across competitions, the need for Kevin De Bruyne to return to full match sharpness as soon as possible has never been greater
Speaking earlier this week, Kevin De Bruyne revealed that he had been suffering from an abdomen problem that was causing shooting pains around his groin whenever striking a football with any force.
Increasing his involvement on the pitch over the last week in particular, De Bruyne is hopeful that he is past the worst, as he explained on his injury, “It’s basically your lower abdomen and everything with the nerves around was creating pain in my groin, so I couldn’t really shoot.
“So every time I would shoot the ball I would get really, really pain,” he continued. “So I was trying to find methods to get better, to get my power back but it took a long time to get better, and actually it only got better on Friday.”
“I don’t know why the first four days it wasn’t really better, and then on Friday it got better. I can’t explain it, I don’t know why. And now the last few days it’s been better. So I’m hoping to get that still going upwards, and that’s it.”
Thankfully for Manchester City and their fans, De Bruyne has returned to action for the Premier League champions in both contests that have followed the international break against Tottenham and Feyenoord.
The timing couldn’t be any better for Pep Guardiola either, with performances decreasing and a mammoth clash against Liverpool now on the horizon, with Manchester City travelling to Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
Ruben Dias and Jeremy Doku have both also returned to Manchester City training this week, with some critics pointing out a lack of a leader in the club’s defensive line, and as such requiring the Portugal international to make his on-field comeback as soon as possible.
