An injury to Nicolo Barella could be the perfect opportunity for Davide Frattesi to cement a place for himself at Inter Milan.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Midfielder Barella will miss Inter’s next few matches.

The 27-year-old has suffered a thigh strain. This should rule him out for the Nerazzurri’s matches against Udinese, Red Star Belgrade, and Torino before the October international break.

Therefore, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will have to cope without a key member of his regular starting eleven.

But fortunately for the coach, Inter have a player who is a like-for-like backup for Barella.

Fellow Italian international Frattesi is a box-to-box midfielder like Barella.

But while the pair have often started together for Italy, Inzaghi has been less inclined to have both on the pitch at the same time.

And Barella’s quality has made it hard for Frattesi to start regularly. The former Sassuolo midfielder lacks a bit of the technical polish and tactical maturity of his teammate.

Nicolo Barella Injury Hands Opportunity To Davide Frattesi At Inter

Nerazzurri coach Inzaghi has used Frattesi as more of a super sub than a regular starter.

But over the next three matches, the 27-year-old is all but certain to make a couple of starts.

One of the reasons that Frattesi is in the Inter squad is so that the team can cope without Barella for periods where the former Cagliari man is on the sidelines.

And starting with this weekend’s match against Udinese, Frattesi will have precisely that job.

Inzaghi will almost certainly give the 24-year-old the nod in the first minute of the Serie A clash.

Frattesi will have a tough job filling in for Barella, undoubtedly.

But a run of starting opportunities could be just what the Italian international needs.

Frattesi can prove that he’s capable of carrying his share of the load in midfield.
