Without any doubt, Lamine Yamal has been one of the most exciting players to emerge from the FC Barcelona academy in the last few years. The young winger has already established himself as a key part of the Blaugrana first team despite being only 17 years of age.
His importance in the team is fully justified by his performances on the pitch, where he is not only highly effective in goal creation but also contributes a lot when advancing the ball up the pitch.
Despite his youth, the Spaniard rarely shows any signs of pressure, even when playing against players significantly older than him and in stadiums where the crowd is clearly hostile.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, he opened up on this aspect of his personality, as he appeared in a recent interview.
The Barcelona star expressed his views on facing pressure as a footballer in the following words:
“When you start playing, you start from zero, so there is no pressure. When you play badly, pressure is just an excuse. Pressure doesn’t exist; it’s something mental, something you put in your own head. If you don’t think about pressure, you don’t feel it. You have to focus on enjoying yourself, on having fun, and then there’s no pressure at all—that’s what I try to do.”
Another notable part of this interview was Yamal talking about his aspirations for the next two years:
“On a collective level, I hope to have already won a Champions League and to experience the World Cup with excitement. On an individual level, I hope to keep growing and improving until I reach the highest level.”
Hopefully, the winger will be able to achieve all of these aspirations, and in the way, will also be able to help Barcelona win some notable trophies in addition to the Champions League that he mentioned.
