Lazio are reportedly determined to sign Nuno Tavares on a permament basis from Arsenal at the first window of opportunity, but his future might not necessarily lie in Rome.
The Italian capital side struck an agreement with the Gunners last summer to secure the left-back’s services on loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season. The Biancocelesti can buy the 25-year-old for a total of circa €6 million, which is considered an absolute bargain considering the player’s exploits, especially in the early part of the season.
So according to Il Corriere dello Sport, Lazio will be looking to take advantage of the early transfer window between the 1st and 10th of June – which has been newly implemented based on the request of Club World Cup participants Inter Milan and Juventus – to finalize Tavares’ buy earlier than expected.

As the Roman newspaper explains, buying the Portugal international would allow the Aquile all the time they need to negotiate a potential sale throughout the summer. That being said, Lazio president Claudio Lotito won’t be willing to offload his star player on the cheap. The patron is notorious for placing hefty price tags on his prized assets, and Tavares won’t be any different.
The source believes the original request will be around €60-65 million, while 40% of the transfer fee would be transferred to North London as Arsenal had negotiated themselves a significant sell-on fee.
