Lazio sporting director Angelo Fabiani pours cold water on rumors linking the Italian capital side with Hellas Verona youngster Reda Belahyane.
A section of fans and observers believe the Biancocelesti must add a new midfielder to their ranks in January, especially after getting exposed for the lack of depth amidst a mini-crisis. In recent weeks, sources claimed Lazio are edging closer to securing an agreement with Verona over Belahyane who made his Serie A bow last season under Marco Baroni, and has now cemented himself as a regular feature at the Bentegodi.
But ahead of the Coppa Italia clash against Napoli, Fabiani insisted that the club has no interest in the 20-year-old Moroccan while chatting with Sport Mediaset (via Calciomercato).
I categorically rule out any interest in this player, who is an excellent footballer, but we are not after him now.
On another note, the former Salernitana director explained that Nuno Tavares isn’t exactly a new revelation, as he’s been displaying his quality on the big stages over the past few years.
He’s not a revelation. He was Nuno Tavares even before he arrived at Lazio. He had a problem while on international duty, but we’re recovering him. You’ll see him on the pitch soon enough.
Finally, Fabiani applauded Marco Baroni’s work at Lazio, explaining why he isn’t surprised by his early exploits in the capital.
Saiba mais sobre o veículoI’m not surprised by Baroni, I’ve known him for many years. Maybe he arrived a little late at a top club, but he deserved it a long ago. He’s a man who made his bones on the pitch, on the outskirts and I can assure you that surviving isn’t easy. He deserves where he’s at today, because no one had ever given him any shortcuts.
