Hellas Verona could be looking to cash in on Reda Belahyane, but Lazio isn’t the only club chasing the young French-Moroccan.
The Biancocelesti are tipped to sign a new midfielder by all accounts in January, preferably one under the age of 22 as the senior squad list is already saturated. And while the club has been linked with a host of players as of late, Belahyane has been the most consistent name in the newspapers, as many consider him the club’s primary objective, despite Angelo Fabiani’s denials.
The 20-year-old made his Serie A debut under current Lazio coach Marco Baroni after joining Verona last January. Nevertheless, the youngster truly rose to prominence this season under Paolo Zanetti, cementing himself as one of the finest up-and-coming deep-lying playmakers in the Italian top flight.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Verona will be looking to bolster their backline in January, but must first raise funds by making a few sales. Hence, they have identified Belahyane as the right profile to sacrifice, as his sale would generate massive capital gains. After all, the Morocco international was signed for €500,000 less than a year ago, while his price tag has now reached €10 million.
Nevertheless, the source warns Lazio of competition coming from Milan who are also pursuing the young player, in addition to Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea and Roberto De Zerbi’s Olympique Marseille who might try to prise the young Regista away from the Italian peninsula.
