Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel might not dwell at Formello for too long, so the club is considering making a move for Leandro Brey.
According to La Lazio Siamo Noi, Provedel’s position at the club has suddenly become vulnerable, especially after receiving some harsh criticism for his part in the Aquile’s agonizing 0-6 defeat at the hands of Inter Milan last week. Although Marco Baroni confirmed the 30-year-old as his first choice between sticks – which should be the case until the end of the season – a summer exit could be slowly brewing.
Therefore, the Biancocelesti could take the opportunity to inject new blood into the goalkeeping department, bringing in another young custodian to compete with Christos Mandas. The source names Boca Juniors’ Brey as a potential profile for the role. The 22-year-old is currently rotating with the experienced Sergio Romero, so he made 21 appearances in all competitions this season, conceding 16 goals and registering 10 clean sheets.
The Los Andes youth product has been gaining traction across Europe, with Arsenal reportedly adding him to his shortlist (via CaughtOffside). His contract with Boca runs until December 2027, while Transfermarkt estimates his value at €2 million.
Brey isn’t the only young Argentine player to be linked with Lazio these days, as the Italian capital side is reportedly leading the race for 21-year-old Velez Sarsfield defender Valentin Gomez.
