Rafael Leao is pleased for Milan ending a two-year drought thanks to the late comeback against Inter in the Supercoppa and discussed the arrival of Sergio Conceiçao in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport (via SOSFanta).

“He brought energy and a new mentality. They have helped us triumph, which was important for everybody, the mainstays and the newcomers, who understood what it means to lift a trophy here. Taking home a derby like that was wonderful. It reminded us that we’re on the right track to win more titles. The dry spell was tough, but it happens in football. We’ve always been ambitious, but certain processes need time. Wearing these colors is an honor and responsibility. We won’t wait that long for the next one. Something has changed in us.”

Leao is committed to Milan.

“I was already a fan when I joined, as many of my favorite players spent time here. I wished to stay for years. Now, I have to thank those who brought me here and helped me grow. I’m fine here, for the present and hopefully the future.”

Leao dished on ousted Milan coach Paulo Fonseca.

“I have nothing to say about our relationship, even though we had to solve a pair of situations at the beginning. He tried to do his job and apply his ideas. It didn’t work, but it wasn’t up to me to decide about him staying. We all pulled in the same direction, and I wish him the best. It was the first time I was benched for three games in a row. He could have given an explanation, but sometimes coaches act like that. It was a learning experience. I hope it won’t happen again.”
