The former Whites boss was full of praise for the Tottenham loanee.
Former Leeds United boss Simon Grayson has spotted a small, but crucial difference in the Whites’ attacking play in recent weeks, praising Tottenham loanee Manor Solomon for embodying the change that has been encouraged by boss Daniel Farke.
Leeds have faced criticism from areas of the fanbase at times this season for a lack of conviction to let shots off in and around the box.
However, over the last three games, Farke’s men have averaged an astonishing 23 shots per game. That change has certainly paid off – the Championship’s leaders have won 7-0, 2-0 and 4-0 in their last three league outings.
Leeds’ 4-0 away win at Watford on Tuesday night further extended their incredible recent defensive record.
Farke’s side have now gone six whole league games since they last conceded a goal, a run that stretches back to the 3-3 draw at Hull City on January 4. However, despite that run, it has been their attacking play that has caught the eye in their most recent victories.
After a 7-0 dismantling of Cardiff a few weeks ago, the Whites once again showed how clinical they can be on Tuesday night, helping themselves to four goals at Vicarage Road.
Manor Solomon netted the third in the 35th minute, when his long-range strike was deflected in off Matty Pollock.
Former Leeds and Preston boss, Grayson, was full of praise for the 25-year-old after the midweek victory. Speaking on LUTV, Grayson said: “Manor goes to the ball, drops a shoulder, gets half a yard away from the Watford player and drives into the wide open space.
“Leeds players have been criticised at times for not shooting enough, but recently the lads have decided they are going to be more positive around the box.
“It takes a big deflection but fair play to Manor for getting into that space, taking on the shot and young Matty Pollock was a bit unfortunate with the deflection. But (to go) 3-0 up was something we deserved.”
Solomon has caught the eye with his performances in the Championship this season, and currently has seven league goals and seven assists from just 25 games.
The Israeli forward is midway through a season-long loan deal from Tottenham Hotspur and his time at Elland Road so far has been a roaring success.
Injuries have disrupted his Spurs career so far, and having made just five league appearances for Ange Postecoglou’s side last term, it wasn’t really a surprise to see him head out on loan.
Grayson certainly feels that Tottenham’s loss has been Leeds’ gain, saying: “He (Solomon) has got to be up there with one of the signings of the season.
“I think everyone was aware of his talent, from his background and what he has done. Injuries have played a part in him not having success, hence why he was allowed out on loan. Him leaving Tottenham has been our (Leeds’) positive.
“You can see him now, he’s got that low centre of gravity, he can go left or right, defenders haven’t got a clue. He’s so intricate with his play around the box, his understanding with Piroe, but also the number 10 and the strikers as well.
“He’s an outstanding talent. Hopefully he can stay fit until the end of the season because he will play a big part.”
