Leicester vs Southampton: Preview, prediction, team news and lineups

Leicester City have won each of their last three meetings with Southampton, scoring 12 goals in the process, seeking a fourth consecutive victory for the first time in the 127-year history of this fixture.
Many are branding this the lowest-quality Premier League fixture of all-time, but both will be determined to claim a rare victory. Southampton still require a point from their final four fixture to avoid equalling Derby's unwanted record for fewest points accumulated in the top division season: 11.
Last weekend, the Saints actually took a shock lead at home to Fulham, courtesy of Jack Stephens' header, only to concede twice late on, the Cottagers' winner coming in stoppage time.
As a result, the Saints have still only won two matches all season, beating Everton on 2 November and Ipswich on 1 February. So, can Simon Rusk's side add to that tally with a victory over their fellow Championship-bound opponents on 3 May?
Leicester City are actually only seven points better off than their visitors, having endured an equally catastrophic campaign. Last weekend, Ruud van Nistelrooy's team were beaten yet again, this time embarrassingly swatted aside 3-0 by Wolves, with Jamie Vardy seeing a tame penalty saved at Molineux, on an afternoon where everything went wrong. Well, this is a microcosm of the entire season, considering the Foxes have now yielded just a solitary point from their last 11 outings.
Overall, it is only one win in 19 for Leicester while, at home, they've failed to score in nine successive Premier League matches, a new unwanted record, dating back to 8 December. So, can the Foxes break their duck at the King Power, or will the Saints simply add to the host's misery?
Ruud van Nistelrooy remains without Harry Souttar, Stephy Mavididi and Abdul Fatawu, while Harry Winks is out the picture after falling out with the manager. Meanwhile, Ricardo Pereira, Facundo Buonanotte and Bobby De Cordova-Reid are all doubts due to injuries suffered last weekend.
There will also be an enforced change in goal; Mads Hermansen's season is over following an operation so, as was the case around Christmas time, Jakub Stolarczyk will deputise.
Leicester City predicted lineup vs Southampton: (4-2-3-1): Stolarczyk; Justin, Coady, Faes, Thomas; Ndidi, Soumaré, El Khannouss, De Cordova-Reid, Buonanotte; Vardy.
Jamie Vardy remains on 198 goals for Leicester City, after seeing a penalty saved a week ago, desperate to reach 200 before departing in four matches time, so can he add to his nine career goals against Southampton?
Ross Stewart led the line against Fulham, his first starting since 5 October due to a hamstring injury, once again likely to be chosen over Paul Onuachu and Cameron Archer. Charlie Taylor, Albert Grønbæk and Ryan Fraser are injured; highly-rated Tyler Dibling will again begin on the bench.
Kamaldeen Sulemana has been one of Southampton's more dangerous attackers this season, scoring against Bournemouth and Swansea, so could he be the key at the King Power?
Predicting a winner from this one is nigh on impossible, but we are backing Leicester to make home advantage count. Are we confident about that? Not at all: Leicester City 2-1 Southampton.
Leicester City vs Southampton takes place on Saturday 3 May 2025, with kick off at 15:00 (BST), 10:00 (EDT) & 7:00 (PDT).
