During an LFP meeting, Ligue 1’s presidents agreed to cut short DAZN’s Ligue 1 broadcasting rights deal, L’Équipe understands.
DAZN signed the rights to broadcast Ligue 1 in the summer. The deal, signed just before the beginning of the season, is worth €400m per year. It allowed the British broacaster to broadcast eight games in every gameweek with the other game going to BeIn Sports. However, just one year into the five-year contract, the two parties are set to part ways.
L’Équipe understands that during a meeting of Ligue 1’s presidents, the decision was taken to break the contract upon the conclusion of the current Ligue 1 campaign. That decision has been ratified by the administration council and an agreement must now be found with DAZN.
The broadcaster is scheduled to make two further payments worth a combined €140m. However, unhappy with the LFP’s handling of the deal, DAZN themselves are demanding €573m in damages. LFP are themselves demanding between €110-125m in compensation. DAZN have refused this for now and there will now be a mediation to break the impasse.
