Manchester United played out a 2-2 draw against Liverpool at Anfield. Here are our player ratings from the game.
(A score of 6 is around average)
Andre Onana 6 – Good save in the first half to deny Alex Mac Allister. Not much he could do about Cody Gakpo’s equaliser or Mohamed Salah’s penalty kick. Distribution was a lot better than it has been in the past few weeks.
Matthijs de Ligt 4 – Didn’t cover himself in glory for Gakpo’s strike and also conceded the penalty from which Liverpool took the lead. An unlucky second half really after a solid opening 45 minutes.
Harry Maguire 6.5 – Some good passes in the middle of the back-three. Aggressive in the duels and some excellent bits of no-nonsense defending. Also came out of the backline to press well. Harsh yellow card after what seemed like a well-timed tackle on Salah. Could have won it for United right at the death but he sent his effort well over the bar.
Lisandro Martinez 9 – A number of good blocks inside the box. Helped Dalot reduce Salah’s threat. Stupendous finish to give United the lead.
Noussair Mazraoui 6 – Performed well in the right-wing-back role. Good in possession and helped United sustain spells of pressure against their bitter rivals. Could have got forward a little bit more.
Manuel Ugarte 8 – Another aggressive and tenacious display, especially in the first half. Wasn’t shy at all to get stuck in and also produced one or two incredible turns while under immense pressure. An unsung hero for United on extremely hostile grounds.
Kobbie Mainoo 6 – Started a bit shaky but grew into the match as it progressed. Good on the ball and contributed defensively.
Diogo Dalot 7 – One of his better performances for United since Ruben Amorim’s arrival. A superb cross to Amad that should have saw United take the lead. A few other positive balls inside the box across both halves. Constantly took on Trent Alexander-Arnold and got some joy when he did. Defensively sound, which is more impressive considering he received an early booking for a foul on Salah.
Amad Diallo 9 – Should have perhaps done better with his header from Dalot’s cross. Very involved and took his goal well to make it 2-2 for United. The Red Devils’ best attacker.
Bruno Fernandes 7.5 – Nice ball into Martinez to break the deadlock. Worked hard. Nice to have him back after missing the last game through suspension. Tested Alisson late on with a clever shot. Caused Liverpool all sorts of problems, especially in the last 30 minutes or so.
Rasmus Hojlund 2 – Another shambolic performance from the n.o 9. On multiple occasions, failed to hold up the ball and make it stick. Didn’t bring his teammates into play and missed a golden chance in the first half.
Alejandro Garnacho 7 – Fantastic work to beat his man and find Amad with the cross. A bright spark when he was thrust into the action.
Joshua Zirkzee 5 – A few good touches and passes that helped to keep things ticking for United.
Leny Yoro 7 – Incredible last-ditch tackle in added time to keep Liverpool from getting in.
