Who is Sam Beukema?

Sam Beukema joined Bologna from AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2023. Since then, he has taken huge strides in his career. He has established himself as an exciting talent, attracting interest from multiple major European clubs.

Beukema featured in 33 games last season, netting two goals and providing one assist. He averaged 0.9 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, and 3.1 clearances per game (stats via whoscored).

The Dutchman plays as a centre-back but can also operate as a right-back. He has solid defensive traits and is an excellent figure in aerial duels. He is also comfortable on the ball and has the ability to send long-term accurate passes.

Virgil van Dijk is in the final year of his current contract at Liverpool. Even if he extends his stay at the club, the management will have to find a long-term replacement for their defender.

While the Reds have been linked to multiple centre-backs over the past few months, they are mostly highly valued. Hence, the club are now eyeing a move for Sam Beukema, who could be a more affordable signing.

Beukema is an underrated gem with an incredible skillset and immense potential. While many could argue whether he can be a long-term replacement for van Dijk or not, he has certainly got the traits to do so. Moreover, Liverpool manager Arne Slot has worked with Beukema previously and knows him well.

The 26-year-old can come at a reasonable rate but it depends upon the English giant whether they would wish to go after an established name or try the Dutchman to replace another of his own country.
