Liverpool’s transfer policy is well-known at this stage - the club prefer to wait for the right targets to become available and act fast to secure their first choice where possible.
It’s a marked difference from other clubs, like Manchester United, who often splash the cash first and ask questions later.
There are a number of positions in Liverpool’s squad that will need addressing over the next 12-18 months - not least those of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, if they are to leave the club.
Across the squad, there are players who have been at the club for a long time: Alisson in goal, Andy Robertson and Trent in defence, Salah in attack.
The club’s meticulous planning has left Arne Slot’s squad in a good spot (even allowing for the contract situation surrounding the big three)
That planning is in contrast to Manchester United, who look like they are about to be forced into a bizarre transfer move by Liverpool.
