In November, Olympique Lyonnais faced a serious financial blow after coming under scrutiny from the DNCG (Direction Nationale du Contrôle de Gestion), leaving the club in a difficult position. However, a January fire sale isn’t necessarily on the horizon.
Lyon does need to sell players to address its financial issues but remains committed to waiting for reasonable offers. The added pressure of a potential relegation to Ligue 2 only underscores the urgency of finding solutions.
Among those who could be on the move are Rayan Cherki and Malick Fofana, though likely for less than their market value. Cherki’s two-year contract extension in September gives Lyon some bargaining power, but a January transfer is still on the table, according to L’Équipe.
Cherki has made no secret of his ambition to play for Real Madrid but is also drawing interest from Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain, keeping his future in the spotlight.
On Thursday, Foot Mercato reported that PSG is pushing to sign Cherki in January. However, they face strong competition from Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen, both eager to secure the talented playmaker. Lyon has reportedly set his price at €30 million.

RMC Sport reported on Friday that PSG could look to sign a winger this winter to provide competition for Bradley Barcola. There have been discussions about this in recent days, and a player whose identity hasn’t been revealed has already been contacted.
Unless there’s a change of plans, it won’t be Olympique Lyonnais’ Rayan Cherki, despite some internal supporters. However, there are also those who wanted him last summer. Cherki has other offers on the table, especially given his strong performances this season. Liverpool is among the clubs showing interest.
Meanwhile, The Sun noted that PSG and Borussia Dortmund are competing with Crystal Palace for Cherki, while The Athletic revealed that West Ham’s sporting director, Tim Steidten, has been closely monitoring the 20-year-old.
