Liverpool’s long-standing interest in Alexander Isak has resurfaced, with the Swedish striker once again being heavily linked to a move to Anfield. On the latest episode of The Transfer Show, Dave Davis confirmed that interest in Isak has not gone away — and this time, the conversation feels far more serious.
“Our info is this is not going away,” Davis stated. “This is a serious thing for Liverpool.” He also revealed that trusted sources now indicate active conversations between Liverpool’s senior staff and their Newcastle counterparts. “Michael Edwards… has been talking to Paul Mitchell at Newcastle,” he said, referencing the club’s Head of Football Operations.
That specific detail suggests more than simple scouting or passive monitoring — it points to groundwork being laid behind the scenes.
Isak’s form this season for Newcastle has only added to his appeal. A regular scorer, elegant on the ball, and intelligent in movement, he fits Liverpool’s preferred profile for a modern No. 9. However, the 24-year-old’s price tag remains steep, and Newcastle’s own ambitions could play a decisive role.
“We’ve always just held that kind of faint hope,” Davis said. “But this just doesn’t go away at all.”
Trev Downey noted the changing dynamics that could tip the scales: “If there is a real desire from the player… and Newcastle don’t get Champions League… who knows?”
Davis also mentioned that Liverpool are exploring creative ways to structure a potential deal, with names like Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah floated as potential makeweights. “Talksport said yesterday that Gomez and Quansah could be involved,” he added, though with understandable caution: “I thought that was lazy journalism… but someone we both know said there’s something in this.”

With uncertainty surrounding the futures of Darwin Núñez and Luis Díaz — both reportedly open to moves — Isak could become the focal point of Arne Slot’s new-look Liverpool attack. “If Nunez and Diaz go… we probably need more than one attacker,” Davis observed.
Isak, with his Premier League pedigree and versatility across the front line, would provide Slot with a ready-made solution. Whether deployed as a traditional nine or in a more fluid forward role, he represents a profile that blends physicality, pace, and technical flair — attributes central to Liverpool’s high-octane style.
This isn’t the first time Liverpool have been linked with Alexander Isak. But this time, it doesn’t feel like background noise. The reappearance of credible reports, the involvement of Michael Edwards, and Newcastle’s potential need to sell mean this story deserves attention.
Davis summed it up: “Would I simply dismiss this? No. Do I think it’s likely? I’ve not flipped to a yes on that either. But it’s right to be a little bit excited about this one.”
In a summer that promises sweeping change at Anfield, don’t be surprised if Alexander Isak becomes a headline name in Liverpool’s next era.
