Alexis Mac Allister has admitted Liverpool look like Premier League title contenders after their victory over Aston Villa took them five points clear at the top of the table.
Goals from Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah were enough for the Reds to down Villa 2-0 and take advantage of rivals Manchester City's 2-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion earlier on Saturday night.
The victory continued Arne Slot's incredible start to life as Liverpool manager, picking up his 15th success from 17 matches since replacing club legend Jurgen Klopp, and hopes of a second Premier League title are growing on Merseyside after the impressive beginning to the campaign.
Speaking after Saturday's victory, Mac Allister admitted Liverpool's place at the top of the division means they are among the main challengers but insisted there is still a long way to go.
He said: "A very big win against a very good team. I think we dominated the game, we played a very good game.

"The goals came in counter-attacks but I think overall the team played a very good game. We are happy with it.
"We know that we are top of the league but there is still a lot of games, so we take it step by step.
"If you are top of the league, five points ahead, then it means something. But as I say, we have to go step by step.
"If you ask me before the season started, I wouldn't say we were candidates but now it looks like [we are]. We are going to keep working and trying to get better."
Liverpool will hope the November international break doesn't kill their momentum with some big matches coming up later this month and at the start of December.
After visiting Southampton in their first game back, the Reds battle Real Madrid, Manchester City, Newcastle United and Everton in quick succession.
