Arne Slot has confirmed that defender Conor Bradley is out for a few weeks with a muscle injury.

The 21-year-old sustained the injury in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Aston Villa earlier this month and is now set for a spell on the sidelines.

“I cannot exactly tell how many [weeks he will miss],” Slot said ahead of Liverpool’s game against Newcastle on Wednesday.

“It’s clear he went off with a muscle injury and it’s going to take a while before he’s back.”

But Slot says midfielder Alexis Mac Allister should be involved against Newcastle despite taking a blow to the face which caused a black eye in the win over Manchester City.

“Alexis Mac Allister will train with us today. I think he is ok,” he added.

Joe Gomez, however, remains out with a thigh problem.

Liverpool sit 11 points clear of Arsenal going into the game against Newcastle and ahead of the clash, Slot backed his players to deal with the busy schedule of games.

He also pointed to his decision to rest players in the FA Cup defeat to Plymouth as something that will now benefit his squad.

“I’m not so sure it is difficult because these players are trained for this and they are ready for this,” he said.

“They are in a certain rhythm and they have shown this season many times that they are able to but it was the reason that I changed the line-up so drastically against Plymouth because I don’t think you can do this all season.

“You need once every four or five weeks, a normal week and what I mean by a normal week is two games a week, not three games a week. Of course, it hurt us in the FA Cup but it also means that these players are now able to play five games in a row at the highest possible level.”
