Real Madrid are all set to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold in the coming weeks on a free transfer, with his contract at Liverpool expiring on June 30.
However, Los Blancos have been trying to negotiate an early release for the Englishman with Liverpool in hope to have him available for the FIFA Club World Cup starting next month.
But the Premier League champions have so far been reluctant to let the 26-year-old leave before his contract runs out at the end of June.
Now, according to MARCA, Liverpool’s management is frustrated – not just over the situation involving Alexander-Arnold but what this might mean moving forward, especially with Ibrahima Konate’s contract expiring in 2026.
Real Madrid informed Liverpool of their interest in Alexander-Arnold, and the player decided not to renew his contract, opting instead to sign with the Spanish giants for free.

Konate’s current deal expires on 30 June 2026, and Liverpool are aware that the centre-back is attracting attention from several top clubs, including Real Madrid.
They know how the Spanish club operates, and there is increasing suspicion that they could lose another key player without receiving a transfer fee in return.
Indeed, at Anfield, there is growing unease over the refusal of Konate to renew his contract. The scenario feels familiar, recalling a similar process last year when Alexander-Arnold began distancing himself from renewal talks.
Despite several attempts to extend Konate’s contract Liverpool remain on alert, wary of potential interest from Real Madrid.
It is affecting Real Madrid’s attempt to land Alexander-Arnold as soon as possible. Liverpool are reluctant to facilitate his early release for the Club World Cup, not only due to financial reasons, but also out of principle and pride.
