Manchester United new head coach Ruben Amorim has not been afraid to ruffle some feathers as seen from his bold selection calls in the last two games.
The Portuguese’s decision to start Altay Bayindir in goal against Tottenham Hotspur did not pay off but the biggest talking point has been his decision to drop Marcus Rashford for both the Manchester derby and the Carabao Cup tie.
Amorim pointed to below-par training displays and the player’s attitude behind the decision and the Mancunian has since revealed in an interview that he is open to leaving his boyhood club.
The academy graduate’s place in the matchday squad against Bournemouth on Sunday is also far from certain and all signs point towards an imminent exit.
So far, there has only been concrete interest from Saudi Arabia but the player does not want to leave Europe at this stage of his career.
His current market value of €55 million as per Transfermarkt coupled with his humongous wages of £375,000 per week (as per capology) means not many European giants can afford the United No 10 as seen from Barcelona recently leaving the race.
Atletico Madrid are eyeing a loan deal, something INEOS will be hesitant to accept as they are looking at a straight sale and as per CaughtOffside, long-term admirers Paris Saint-Germain will also struggle to afford the Mancunian.
The Ligue 1 giants have spoken to the forward’s camp in the past but no move had materialised. And it seems Rashford’s hopes of landing up at the Parc des Princes could be dashed yet again.
“Sources with a close understanding of the situation have informed CaughtOffside that PSG remain keen on Rashford after previously holding talks with him in the past, though there could now be an issue with agreeing a deal.
“Man Utd want £50m to let Rashford go, but his recent dip in form and public criticism from Red Devils manager Ruben Amorim will likely mean clubs aren’t willing to pay quite that much.
“CaughtOffside have been told that PSG could be interested in Rashford, but not at that price, and so the Ligue 1 giants are looking at a number of other attacking talents.”
In a more concerning update, PSG might look to Sporting Lisbon forward Viktor Gyokeres as a potential alternative. It is well known that the Swede is a favourite of the United boss and that the Red Devils have their eyes on him for next summer.
“Viktor Gyokeres is one of the names on PSG’s list, and he’s undoubtedly one of the most exciting attacking players in world football right now after a stunning record of 70 goals in just 75 games during his time with Sporting Lisbon.”
At this rate, United might find it hard to find the perfect suitor for Rashford and that might end up impacting their ability to land Gyokeres. All eyes will be on how INEOS handle the situation.
