Reports of West Ham looking to make a move for Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo have been thrown out as nonsense.

That is the view ofHammers Chat Forum host Gonzo, who feels that the club have far larger pressing issues than needing to recruit a new defender in the new year, especially one that is being utilised regularly by the high-flying Blues so far this season.

Adarabioyo only signed for the west London club in a bosman deal in the summer, one West Ham were keen on exploring too, however the fact he’s seen as a key player under Enzo Maresca.

“Chelsea would now command a hefty fee for the player, and West Ham have other priorities,” stated Gonzo. “The club will be looking to recruit a striker and possibly a midfielder in January, with limited funds to do so.”

It’s well documented that the club will have to box clever in the upcoming transfer window, with a high expectation that player sales will be a driving force to provide funds to invest, with a new striker considered the priority.

Gonzo went on to add that even if West Ham did have the funds for the former Fulham defender Adarabioyo, it would unlikely make a huge difference considering the system that the under-fire Julen Lopetegui tends to play at the back.

“One gets the impression that even if West Ham spent £293 million on their defence, the issues would persist because it’s the system rather than the personnel that’s the problem,” he added. “WhilstJulen Lopetegui got the desired result in the Hammers’ 2-1 win against Wolves, Gary O’Neil’s side still created 19 chances without playing particularly well.”
