Luis Enrique is targetting history with Paris Saint-Germain on course for an unbeaten domestic season. Should PSG pull off the feat, they would become the first Ligue 1 side to do so.
Les Parisiens were denied the Ligue 1 title last weekend. They beat AS Saint-Étienne, Stade de Reims beat Olympique de Marseille, however, for the title to be settled, AS Monaco and OGC Nice had to draw. The Principality club beat their local rivals thanks to a second-half winner from Breel Embolo.
However, it is in PSG’s hands this week and a draw against relegation strugglers SCO Angers, at the Parc des Princes will be enough for the club to secure their fourth consecutive Ligue 1 title. “We are virtually champions. There are many records that we could beat and it could also allow us to prepare for the Champions League and the Coupe de France,” said Luis Enrique on Friday.
Les Parisiens are in the final of the Coupe de France after overcoming a scare against USL Dunkerque in the semi-finals last week, whilst they will face Aston Villa in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final next week.
But for now, the focus is on domestic football. Currently unbeaten in Ligue 1 and in the cup, an invincible season is on the cards. “There are records that didn’t interest me until today but we will try to remain unbeaten all season. This record is very interesting, even if the most important thing is winning the league,” said the PSG manager.
