Manchester United’s summer rebuild is gathering pace, with the midfield clearly a priority. According to FootballTransfers, the club are edging closer to the signing of Brazilian powerhouse Ederson from Atalanta, with negotiations expected to intensify after the Europa League final: “Man Utd are closing in on the signing of Atalanta midfield star Ederson.”
Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà, widely respected for his reliability in transfer circles, reports that United are ahead of Manchester City and Juventus in the race due to the urgency and clarity of their approach.
Talks are well underway, though an agreement on the fee remains the hurdle. Atalanta are reportedly demanding at least €60 million for the 24-year-old, whose contract runs until 2027.

Ederson is a midfielder of stamina and substance — an engine capable of covering ground tirelessly while offering bite in the tackle and composure in possession. He has functioned primarily as a box-to-box presence, but his tactical flexibility allows him to drop deeper or drive forward depending on team structure.
His role in Atalanta’s Europa League success last season cemented his reputation on a broader stage. In the final against Bayer Leverkusen, he delivered a standout performance as Gian Piero Gasperini’s side ran out 3-0 winners.
As FootballTransfers noted, “He really sold himself to a worldwide audience with his brilliant performance in Atalanta’s Europa League final win over Bayer Leverkusen last year.”
That display echoed what Serie A followers already knew — Ederson is a midfielder who blends industry and intelligence, something United’s current squad has lacked too often in recent seasons.
This move comes with the expectation of change. Casemiro, whose influence has waned, is set to depart, while Christian Eriksen is also likely to exit. In this context, Ederson becomes more than just a signing — he’s the cornerstone of a new midfield identity.
“The Red Devils have made the Brazilian their top target to strengthen the centre of their midfield at the end of the season.”
Since joining Atalanta from Salernitana in 2022, Ederson has made over 100 appearances, scoring 13 goals. He has become integral to Atalanta’s high-tempo pressing and swift transitions — traits United have struggled to consistently replicate.

Although €60 million is significant, it reflects Ederson’s growing stature in European football. Atalanta, a club renowned for producing and selling top talent, typically move one big name per summer. With Ademola Lookman expected to be sold, Ederson’s future remains negotiable, but not guaranteed.
United’s swift movement may prove decisive. While Manchester City and Juventus admire the player, they have yet to match United’s intent. And in a summer where midfield upgrades are essential, proactivity could make all the difference.
The prospect of United signing Ederson is not just exciting, it’s essential. For too long, the midfield has lacked consistent energy, positional discipline, and the ability to dominate matches against high-quality opposition. Ederson brings all of that in abundance.
His performances in Serie A — particularly on European nights — have shown a player ready to make the step into one of Europe’s top leagues. There’s no doubting his talent, but it’s his mindset that stands out. He’s relentless in his pressing, composed in transition, and knows when to break lines or hold shape.
Fans will also appreciate his character. Ederson plays with heart. He doesn’t shy away from physical duels, and his fitness levels mean he’s influential from the first whistle to the last. In many ways, he mirrors the type of midfielder United supporters used to admire — think Darren Fletcher with more flair, or an early Michael Carrick with added bite.
If United can secure Ederson before pre-season, it sends a clear message. This is no longer a team reacting to failure — it’s one planning to contend.
