Man Utd are interested in Burnley keeper James Trafford, who is also on the radar of Newcastle United.
Man United could make a summer move for Burnley’s James Trafford, with the keeper also on the radar of Newcastle United after his outstanding season at Turf Moor.
The former Man City youngster completed a big-money move to the Clarets in the summer of 2024, and he endured a tough first year for the club as they were relegated from the Premier League.
However, Trafford has been incredible this season, keeping 24 clean sheets as Burnley continue to break defensive records as they seek an immediate return to the top-flight.
Therefore, it’s perhaps no surprise that the England U21 international is attracting attention, with reports recently claiming the keeper is set to join Newcastle when the summer window opens.
Whilst Eddie Howe cooled talk of a deal being agreed already, it seems apparent the Tyneside outfit have a genuine interest in Trafford, who they also tried to sign last year.
Yet, they may not have a clear run at the stopper, as Give Me Sport has revealed that Man Utd are also monitoring the 22-year-old.
They claim Ruben Amorim is growing increasingly frustrated with the performances of current number one Andre Onana, and there is a possibility that Trafford could nail down a place in the XI if he completes a move to the Red Devils.
Obviously, in an ideal world, Burnley would be planning on having Trafford in goal for the next decade and beyond, but we know that football doesn’t work like that nowadays.
He was always regarded as a top talent when he joined the club, and key figures at Turf Moor would have known that there was every chance he would make a step-up at some point in his career. And, even if Scott Parker’s side win promotion, the reality is that a switch to Newcastle or Man Utd is going to appeal.
So, it’s hard to stand in the way of a player when clubs that size show an interest, and Trafford certainly has the ability to play for either club.
But, from Burnley’s perspective, he is under contract until the summer of 2027, so they will be in a position to demand the big sort of fee that should be paid for a keeper of Trafford’s quality and potential.
