Yesterday, Manchester United secured their first victory in the Premier League by a four goal margin since the days of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
After a rather disappointing display versus Ipswich Town in Ruben Amorim’s Premier League debut, the Red Devils roared back into life with a dominant 4-0 display at home to Everton.
So high are Amorim’s standards that he labelled the performance “far from perfect” in spite of the great result.
The victory places the Red Devils in ninth place and they now sit only four points off the Champions League spots.
The win means more than propelling the club up the table as it is the biggest victory they have secured in the Premier League all season.
Statman Dave reports that the victory was the first since before Erik ten Hag that United won by a four goal margin in the Premier League.
Ten Hag did beat Barnsley 7-0 in the Carabao Cup this year but he failed to ever truly put a team to the sword like this in the Premier League.
His side did win 3-0 a few times but he never managed a four goal margin in the league.
United had also not scored so many goals in one match since last April, when they beat Sheffield United 4-2 at Old Trafford last season.
It is a highly impressive home debut for Amorim, who will certainly aim to score substantially more goals than Ten Hag’s United managed to.
In spite of this, he still has some way to go to beat some of the scores United managed under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. In 2021, the Norwegian guided the team to a 9-0 victory over Southampton in the league.
United fans will not be demanding this of course, but they will certainly hope their side can return to the ways of the past, where they would frequently put away teams lower than them in the table with relative ease, especially on home soil.
