A second-half brace from Jean-Philippe Mateta earned Crystal Palace a deserved 2-0 victory away to Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

Palace, in many ways, are an ideal away team. Oliver Glasner's well-drilled 3-4-3 are comfortable without the ball, a threat in transition and boast the aerial prowess to cause any team a problem from set pieces, let alone one as comically inept at defending dead balls as United.

The visitors took the lead in the 64th minute from a familiar route to goal. After an entertaining first half with chances for both sides - most of which fell for the yellow-clad interlopers - Mateta tapped Palace in front at the end of a well-worked free-kick.

United's attempts to haul themselves level were punctuated by a lengthy stoppage for treatment on Lisandro Martinez, who had to be stretchered off, but the hosts had no response for Mateta's second of the afternoon.

Daniel Munoz broke United's bumbling attempt at an offside trap in the 89th minute, running completely unopposed into the penalty box before squaring for his French teammate to tap Palace into an unassailable lead.

Sunday's dismal defeat was United's fifth loss from their last six Premier League matches at Old Trafford - a fact which was not lost upon the unimpressed home crowd. Palace, who are unbeaten away from home in the league since October, leapfrogged United to move into 12th place in the table.
