Man Utd eventually see off Newcastle 5-3 in Women’s League Cup | OneFootball

Brighton, Durham, Manchester United, Spurs and West Ham progress to the Women’s League Cup last eight, joining Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City.

GROUP A: Liverpool 4-0 Everton, Manchester United 5-3 Newcastle United

Hannah Greenwood conceded an early own-goal and although Deanna Cooper took little time to level for Newcastle, Emma Watson restored Manchester United’s lead. Two minutes after the interval Newcastle were level again with Amy Andrews on target but the hosts netted three in the last 20 minutes or so through Rachel Williams, Gabby George and Elisabeth Terland. The visitors still weren’t done though, as Lois Joel got their third in added time.

Jenn Clark headed Liverpool one up from a Ceri Holland corner, while also in the first half Leanne Kiernan struck the Everton crossbar. Mia Enderby bagged a second-half brace, with Cornelia Kapocs netting in-between.

GROUP B: Blackburn Rovers 4-2 Sheffield United, Sunderland 1-2 Durham

Durham led in the opening second through Ellie Ryan-Doyle, Katy Watson wasting little time in finding the equaliser. Kaila Novak put the Wildcats back ahead, to make the quarter-finals at the expense of the Black Cats.

Maria Edwards scored in the third minutes on the way to a first-half treble for Rovers. Tyler Toland took the score to 4-0, before Satara Murray and Maria Farrugia pulled goals back for the Blades.

GROUP C : Portsmouth 2-5 London City Lionesses, West Ham United 3-0 Southampton

Gesa Marashi netted in the first minute for London City, Teyah Goldie getting their second half an hour later. Marashi got her second and Miljana Ivanovic also scored twice for the Lionesses, with Megan Hornby getting a couple in response for the home side.

West Ham’s Dagný Brynjarsdóttir put a penalty over the crossbar but later forced an own-goal and scored in stoppage-time. Sheila Zadorsky broke the Saints resistance on the hour mark, the second going in off Southampton’s Paige Peake.

GROUP D: Brighton & Hove Albion 6-2 Bristol City, Leicester City 5-2 Birmingham City

Bruna Vilamala gave Brighton a seventh-minute advantage over Bristol City, who quickly equalised through Tianna Teisar. Rachel McLauchlan restored the lead and Pauline Bremer made it 3-1 by half time. Michelle Agyemang further increased the lead, Jasmine Bull replying, Nikita Parris then weighing in with a double for the Eagles.

Ava Baker opened the scoring for Birmingham but Leicester netted four times in an eight-minute spell approaching the break. A Neve Herron own-goal and then a Yuka Momiki penalty were followed by goals from CJ Bott and Simone Sherwood. Hannah Cain hit the fifth, with Christie Harrison-Murray grabbing a late second form the Foxes.

GROUP E: Crystal Palace 0-2 Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa 4-1 Charlton Athletic

Charlotte Newsham put Charlton Athletic in front at Aston Villa, before goals by Rachel Daly and Ebony Salmon turned the game on its head in a seven-minute spell. Salmon got her second soon after the restart, Daly did likewise in the latterv stages.

Mathilda Vinberg made a 50th-minute breakthrough for Spurs away to Crystal Palace, where Araya Dennis also got on the scoresheet to held take Tottenham into the quarter-finals.
