As the summer transfer window came to a close, Paris Saint-Germain made a late push to strengthen their defense. However, if they plan to revisit this target, they’re in for a tough battle.
In August, Loïc Tanzi from L’Équipe reported that PSG had offered Tomás Araújo a €5 million annual contract, but the deal hinged on selling a center-back first.
At the same time, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano noted that Chelsea was also keeping an eye on Araújo as a potential signing. While they hadn’t submitted an official offer, the Blues saw the 22-year-old as a strong option if they moved a defender in the final days of the window.
Despite interest from both clubs, Benfica chose to keep Araújo. According to Romano, the Portuguese side was reluctant to sell him, especially after parting with several players earlier in the summer.

The Sun reports that Manchester United are preparing a £50 million bid to challenge Chelsea for the Benfica defender in January.
O Jogo recently reported that Chelsea, Newcastle, and Crystal Palace are among several clubs interested in the player. The Lisbon club has set his release clause at €100 million, leaving PSG with an all-or-nothing option.
