Injury problems concerning Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City squad remain as concerning as ever during the international break with fresh updates on the picture.
The Premier League champions have broken up their club schedule over the ongoing week and into next week with international fixtures for their respective nations, with a number of stars being called-up for duty.
Among the players expected to represent their nations over the coming matches are Erling Haaland for Norway, Stefan Ortega Moreno for Germany in his first call-up for the country, and Savinho and Ederson for Brazil.
However, a number of stars have withdrawn from original selections, with Phil Foden and Jack Grealish exiting England’s camp on day one, alongside the likes of Matheus Nunes, Manuel Akanji, and Jeremy Doku exiting Portugal, Switzerland and Belgium respectively.
And while Pep Guardiola will be doing his best to take on some much-needed rest before club football returns with an intense fixture list over the next three months, he will certainly have one eye on the clash against Tottenham later this month at the Etihad Stadium.
While many of Manchester City’s players will be focussing on their recovery processes over the next two weeks, others are faced with more frustrating injuries as a new report has highlighted around the situation.
According to the information of The Athletic’s Sam Lee, and keeping things on the positive front to begin with, mainstay central defender Ruben Dias has a calf injury that is not expected to keep him out for much longer.
Manuel Akanji is also reportedly not expected to miss many more, if any, Manchester City games beyond the international break having withdrawn from Switzerland’s squad due to a lack of fitness.
A similar note is issued on John Stones’ fitness complaint, which is not thought to be serious according to The Athletic, although Nathan Ake has reportedly sustained another hamstring and could be set for a spell on the sidelines for longer than others.
Sam Lee’s coverage of the injury situation also details that Manchester City forward, Jeremy Doku has sustained a problem in his thigh, having only recently returned from a different injury.
Kevin De Bruyne is one name that will be hoping to string together a run of consistent matches and fitness heading into arguably the most crucial phase of the campaign, having struggled with a groin problem of late.
Kyle Walker has also found himself struggling for fitness and has been limited to only a handful of training sessions this season, reflecting in his on-field performances for Manchester City against the likes of Bournemouth and Brighton & Hove Albion in particular.
Following Manchester City’s meeting with Tottenham in the Premier League immediately after the international break, other high-profile fixtures include visit to Liverpool and Aston Villa in the top-flight, as well as high-flying Nottingham Forest at home.
