Officials at Manchester City are now moving to finalise a deal for highly-rated Leicester City winger Jeremy Monga, according to new reports.

The Premier League champions have been evidently building for the future over the last few weeks, and their new recruitment drive has also coincided with the pending arrival of a new sporting director in Hugo Viana.

The Portuguese official was recruited by Manchester City midway through 2024 when long-standing director of football Txiki Begiristain confirmed to his employers and close peers within the club that after 12 seasons in the role, he would be leaving at the end of the season.

City will naturally see a slight change in direction when it comes to transfer business, and that may have already been evident with the way the club went about particular pieces of activity during the January window.

Juma Bah, Vitor Reis, Abdukodir Khusanov, and Christian McFarlane were all brought into the defensive ranks in the winter market ranging around the teenage age profile and early 20s, with the Brazilian and Uzbek athletes integrated immediately into the first-team squad.

And while there is interest in Hibernian’s 16-year-old Scotland youth international goalkeeper Ben Vickery to add to the arrival of Claudio Echeverri, Manchester City simultaneously have their eye on a talent rising within the development set-up of a Premier League rival.

That is according to the information of MailSport’s Sami Mokbel, who confirms that Manchester City are now moving to seal a transfer agreement for Leicester City’s highly-rated wide attacking talent, Jeremy Monga.

It is reported that any deal is likely to see a need to go through a tribunal process, but that is not holding back the Premier League champions in their interest, with Manchester City said to be moving forward with a swoop.

Despite the teenager’s youth, he has a wealth of experience in playing above his own age and has already featured in Leicester City’s senior set-up under manager Ruud van Nistelrooy once this season.

Monga has featured in all three of Leicester City’s Under-21 EFL Trophy matches this campaign, and was among the substitutes of the first-team squad that was defeated 2-1 in the FA Cup against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

In Premier League 2 competition, the teenager has featured seven times scoring once and providing one assist in the process, alongside his achievement of eight caps for England’s Under-16 side and scoring in a 7-3 win over Denmark last month.
