Manchester City take on West Ham today at the Etihad Stadium in a crucial Premier League fixture. Pep Guardiola’s side will enter today’s match off the back of their 2-nil win over Leicester City last weekend. They’ll be looking to make it consecutive wins against the Hammers today. But West Ham will be determined to pick up a result to ease pressure on manager Julen Lopetegui. Here is the latest City injury news and my predicted Manchester City starting eleven ahead of today’s match.
Pep Guardiola told the media yesterday that he is likely to have the same squad to choose from that he did against Leicester City. Rodri and Oscar Bobb are out of today’s match with long-term injuries. John Stones, Ederson, Ruben Dias and Matheus Nunes all missed the match at the King Power Stadium.
Of those four players only Matheus Nunes and Ederson could return to the bench for today’s match. The pair have returned to training but they would appear to only be a chance to feature as substitutes today.
Stefan Ortega: Ortega is an automatic selection for today’s match. He’s been in good form in goal and hopefully that continues today.
Rico Lewis: I think Lewis has played w inell of late. He is tasked with a heavy burden and I expect that to continue today.
Manuel Akanji: The Swiss international appears to be working his way back to full fitness. He should start again today.
Nathan Ake: Ake has battled on manfully during City’s past two games. To his credit, he has played well, and the hope is he can play a full 90 minutes today against West Ham.
Josko Gvardiol: Gvardiol has been error-plagued of late, and despite this, he should start at left-back today.
Mateo Kovacic: Kovacic will have a massive role to play in City’s midfield today. If he can dictate the midfield battle it may decide today’s match.
Bernardo Silva: Bernardo has played almost every game this season and I expect him to start once again today.
Kevin De Bruyne: The Manchester City legend is working his way towards full fitness. He started against Leicester and I expect to do so again today.
James McAtee: It’s time for McAtee to start a game. He showed what he can do against Leicester City and hopefully he can finally start a Premier League fixture for Manchester City today.
Savinho: The Brazilian international has been in sparkling form of late. He’s City’s most dangerous winger on form and there’s no reason to suggest he won’t start today.
Erling Haaland: Haaland scored last weekend but it was his overall performance which caught the eye against Leicester. Hopefully he carries that form in to today’s match.
