There remains a chance that Marcus Rashford could still leave Manchester United before deadline day, with the club in talks with Barcelona over a late loan deal.

Rashford’s future at United is still uncertain ahead of the close of the winter transfer window on February 3.

The England international has missed United’s last 11 games across all competitions. After Sunday’s 2-1 win against Fulham at Craven Cottage, Amorim told reporters that he would rather play 63-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital instead of a demotivated Rashford.

Amorim doubled down in a subsequent interview, insisting that Rashford had crossed “certain red lines”, prompting his exile from the team.

Despite training with his teammates on Wednesday ahead of their Europa League meeting with FCSB, Rashford was excluded from the travelling squad.

In his pre-match presser, Amorim insisted that United are a better team with Rashford but the 27-year-old “has to change” his ways before being reinstated.

A number of clubs including Borussia Dortmund, West Ham, Tottenham Hotspur, AC Milan and Juventus have all shown some interest in the Carrington academy graduate but his preference is believed to be Barcelona.

However, his mega wages coupled with Barcelona’s dire financial shape are making it extremely difficult to get over the line.

The Blaugrana need to offload one or two players to make room for Rashford but they’re finding it hard to offload the likes of Eric Garcia and Ansu Fati.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Rashford and Barca reached an agreement over personal terms.

Now, The Telegraph reveal that the Catalan giants are in contact with United about a late transfer.

According to the newspaper, “Manchester United are in tentative talks with Barcelona over a loan deal for Marcus Rashford, although there remains doubt over whether the Catalan club can do the agreement in time for Monday’s deadline, given their struggles to comply with La Liga’s financial controls.”

“Should the Barcelona deal break down there would appear to be no other option but a rapprochement with Ruben Amorim, who has been unequivocal in excluding Rashford from the first-team squad.”

“The player and his advisers, chiefly his brother Dwaine Maynard, see Barcelona as the only viable option.”

Sam Wallace notes that if Rashford or Alejandro Garnacho depart Old Trafford before the close of the window, United may swoop in for Mathys Tel.

United are keen on signing Tel, but only if Bayern Munich make him available on loan.
