Ruben Amorim needed to bring in quality for the wingback positions, so Manchester United went out and secured Patrick Dorgu’s signature in January.

The Danish star can play on both flanks but given he is left-footed, the Portuguese is likely to use him on the left while for now, Diogo Dalot is playing on the right flank.

But the Portugal international is not a wingback which is exactly why the head coach wants to bring in Geovany Quenda from his former club Sporting CP.

There is also interest in Braga’s Roger Fernandes with Teamtalk now revealing that the Red Devils are also keeping their eye on Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong.

Frimpong back on the radar

The Dutch star has been a long-term target for the Old Trafford side with the 24-year-old scoring thrice and registering 10 assists this term.

It has not been as productive a season as last time out with the wingback netting 14 times while adding 10 assists as well while in the 22/23 season, he had nine goals to his name and 10 assists.

His consistent displays have attracted the interest of not only both Manchester giants but also Real Madrid and Barcelona with the Netherlands international looking to leave Germany in the summer.

“Manchester United and Manchester City are set to duke it out for Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimong but face major competition for his services, TEAMtalk can reveal.

Huge race on

“Now, TEAMtalk can reveal that both teams are tracking Leverkusen’s Frimpong, as are Barcelona and Real Madrid.

“We understand that the Dutch international will leave the reigning German champions this summer and Xabi Alonso’s side are already looking at alternatives to the former Celtic man.”

Frimpong’s attacking style suits Amorim’s gameplan to the T and it will be interesting to see if United can beat their rivals to his signature.

The former Manchester City academy graduate’s market value stands at €50 million with his deal with Leverkusen valid until 2028.

With a striker and a midfielder also on Amorim’s agenda, it remains to be seen if such an extensive outlay is possible in the summer.
