Milan Keen on Serie A Duo to Eventually Succeed Maignan

Mike Maignan refused to comment on his Milan future in the presser before the Coppa Italia final. The brass doesn’t yet have a firm indication whether he’ll take their latest contract offer. They have laid eyes on Marco Carnesecchi and Mile Svilar, Calciomercato informs.
The goalkeeper skirted the question before the Bologna clash.
“My only focus is on this match. The time will come when we’ll all be able to address this situation, but I’d rather speak only about the final now.”
Milan leaked that they had reached an agreement with Maignan in the winter, but he never actually put pen to paper. As their position on the table worsened and their chances to qualify for the Champions League dimmed, the hierarchy changed the proposal, lowering it from €5M per year to €4M plus add-ons.
The move has likely irked the shot-stopper. Chelsea have been after him for over a year, and Manchester United wish to move on from André Onana.
The Rossoneri have earmarked two Serie A options if need be. Carnesecchi has completely broken out this campaign, but Atalanta are an expensive boutique. Roma are having trouble re-upping Svilar’s contract. The parties are stuck on the wages and a possible release clause. If the difficulties didn’t get solved soon, the team might accept a large offer rather than lose leverage down the line.
Considering the turn of events, the parties seem headed for a somewhat amicable parting of the ways. The Italian goalie is a difficult target because Atalanta will likely sell other linchpins. Instead, it’d be smart for any team to exploit the impasse between Roma and their goalie.
