Rafael Leao understands the sentiment of the faithful, who loudly protested against the squad and the ownership as the Genoa game was winding down and ultimately ended in a nil-nil draw. He spoke to various outlets after the game (via SOSFanta).
“It hurt us. We just lacked a goal, as we created a lot. It’s normal when you don’t win. Some victories can change everything in the standings. I took home the Scudetto here, and I tried to help the youngsters. The same thing happened to me when I joined. This makes me grow as a player and a man.”
Leao looked dejected while listening to the boos.
“It was out of frustration. We had done everything to prevail. But it’s already time to move onto the next game.”
The star backed Paulo Fonseca.
“We are starting to understand his ideas, but it takes time. Sometimes we are the problem. We can improve in little things, like the fierceness in the box or finding the spaces. He has good concepts. He wants to play the ball a lot and pressure the opponents. I feel the difference because it can help us score. We had a nice stretch, and a draw can’t be the end of the world. We have to understand why we didn’t win and bounce back together.”
Leao was quizzed about the standings.
