After missing the last few games due to injury, Matteo Gabbia has just about fully recovered and he has Juventus in his sights.
As MilanNews recall, Gabbia was loaned to Villarreal in the 2023 summer window due to a lack of game time foreseen, but he returned in January because of the centre-back injury crisis. Since then he has been among the most consistent performers, earning a first Italy call-up and scoring a derby winner.
While the rest of the squad will enjoy four days off starting tomorrow (at least those not on international duty), Gabbia and the other injured players will also be training at Milanello on Thursday and Friday.
The defender’s objective is very clear: to be available to Paulo Fonseca for the match on Saturday 23rd against Juventus at San Siro. It is a crucial game against a direct competitor but also a big rival, and a negative result would risk ending the league season very early.
In an interview he gave to SportMediaset on Monday night, Gabbia showed himself to be a vocal leader: “Time is certainly needed but I don’t think it can be an alibi or an excuse. Obviously we are not happy with the points we have in the league, as other team-mates of mine have already said, as the coach said.”
Milan want to extend and increase the salary of the academy graduate to reward him for his rise, his consistency and his attachment to the shirt. The feeling is that sooner or later in the next few months a signature will arrive.
