Moretto: Man City want Reijnders – Milan could sacrifice star without Champions League

AC Milan might have to sell a star player this summer without Champions League football, as Manchester City’s interest in Tijjani Reijnders has been confirmed.
Milan missing out on the top four will leave a hole in the budget, at least compared to recent season. Calculations suggest that from the get go, the Rossoneri will be €27m worse off than they would be had they qualified for the Champions League, even by being in the Europa League.
Thus, the ownership will have to decide whether they want to invest the same amount in the squad regardless, or if there are sales necessary to raise funds. This is no doubt one of the things that is being spoken about with the various sporting director candidates, if one even arrives.
Matteo Moretto has given an update on Milan’s strategy in view of the summer in a video on his YouTube channel, and his comments have been relayed by Francesco Nasato.
“On Reijnders, total confirmation of Manchester City’s interest. The Dutchman is among the top targets of the English team who are studying a possible offer. There have been no contacts yet with Reijnders’ agent or with Milan,” he said.
“Reijnders has always said that he gives top priority to Milan. The will of Milan would be to consider him untouchable, but we should first understand what City would be willing to offer.
“Without the Champions League, Milan will have to try to find a way out for some of the top players in the squad. I wouldn’t use the word unsellable for any of the players because a lot also depends on the size of the offer.”
