The Baggies are expected to see a lot of faces exit B71 this summer.
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…
West Brom are expected to sanction the exits of multiple first-team figures regardless of which division the club ends up playing in next season.
Under the new ownership of Shilen Patel and Andrew Nestor, the duo are keen to get the Baggies back to the big time, introducing a squad model that puts young and hungry players at the forefront of the team.
At this moment in time, Albion still have a lot of players who were recruited under the previous ownership of Guochuan Lai, with the majority of these senior figures getting to the point of overstaying their welcome.
Over a transitional period, West Brom will become more free-spending under Florida-based businessman Patel, which has already been on show as the club spent large portions of their budget in January on the likes of Adam Armstrong, Isaac Price and Tammer Bany.
A departure mixed with players whose contracts run down at the end of this term along with under performers will free up critical budget funds and allow Albion to be even more competitive next season, immaterial of whether promotion is secured back to the big time.
With the summer set to be a crucial period in Patel’s early running of the club, our West Brom fan pundit has listed who he thinks Albion will wave goodbye to ahead of next season.
Speaking exclusively to Football League World, West Brom fan pundit Callum Burgess expects up to seven players to depart The Hawthorns this season.
Burgess said: “It’s most likely going to be another summer of change at Albion with the likes of Semi Ajayi, Kyle Bartley, John Swift and Grady Diangana all coming to the end of their contracts, while there is also undoubtedly going to be interest in Tom Fellows.
“In terms of players who may want to leave to get more playing time, then Gianluca Frabotta and Devante Cole may be pushing for an exit as they haven’t featured much at all this season.
“With Fellows, you’ve got a young English talent who you’ll be able to get a big fee from and getting the wages from the likes of Ajayi, Bartley, Swift and Diangana off the books means there's going to be a lot of money saved, so there will definitely be a job on the hands for the recruitment team to replace those players this summer.”
While West Brom do possess many experienced and senior players at the club, many of them have been around for far too long and been part of the decay over the last seven years.
To make a name for themselves again, the Baggies must continue to be on the lookout overseas for talented and skillful players that could be the future of the club for years to come.
There is hope from the Baggies faithful that Shilen Patel and Andrew Nestor will be on board and deliver with this aim, and while change can be worrying at times, it must happen so Albion can make strides to once again become an established Premier League team.
