The highly anticipated Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool has been rescheduled after its original December 7 clash was postponed due to Storm Darragh.
Now officially rescheduled, the derby will mark the final league encounter between the two clubs at Goodison Park before Everton move to their new Bramley Moore Dock stadium.
The rearranged fixture will take place on Wednesday, February 12, with a kick-off time of 7:30pm (UK time) and will be broadcast live in the UK on TNT Sports.
With safety concerns arising from wind gusts of up to 70 miles per hour, the original match was called off, leaving fans awaiting confirmation of a new date.
The postponement allowed Liverpool some valuable recovery time, with Arne Slot’s side benefiting from a short break. As a result, the Reds will now face a new challenge, as the rescheduled fixture will also be the first Merseyside Derby for Liverpool’s head coach Arne Slot, facing the newly reappointed Everton manager David Moyes, who has been involved in plenty of Merseyside derbies.
The new date will be dependent on Arne Slot’s side finishing in the top eight of the Champions League and therefore skipping the Champions League play-off phase.
Liverpool are currently top of the new 36-club table. This would guarantee them a place in the round of 16, meaning they bypass the knockout rounds set to be played on February 11/12 and February 18/19.
The midweek clash will come after Liverpool’s FA Cup fourth round clash with Championship strugglers Plymouth Argyle and a few days before the Reds take on Wolves in the Premier League.
