Early signs suggests they’ll be targeting serious firepower in the final third, meaning it could be the end of the road for some at Elland Road.

Leeds United appear to be gearing up for a huge £100m spending spree in the transfer market this summer, after gaining promotion to the Premier League as Champions. Early signs are suggesting they’ll be targeting serious firepower in the final third, meaning it could be the end of the road for some at Elland Road.

With promotion comes opportunity, but also consequences. And for two current squad members, the direction Leeds are heading in may be a troubling sign of what's to come for their careers in West Yorkshire.

While supporters will welcome ambition, not everyone in the dressing room will view the latest developments as positive. In fact, if recent Sky Sports reports are anything to go by, Leeds' next potential striker addition, Everton's Beto, would all but confirm that the writing is on the wall for a couple of familiar faces.

We explore that here:

Beto link is another ominous sign for Patrick Bamford

For Bamford, the warning signs have been flashing for some time. His role has gradually diminished under Daniel Farke, and with Leeds actively prioritising a striker this summer, the veteran forward is already facing the prospect of reduced involvement. The club is clearly looking to evolve its attack, and Bamford simply hasn’t been able to provide the consistency or availability needed to keep pace.

The reported interest from Wrexham says a lot. A move down the pyramid might be telling, but not surprising. If a player like Beto, with Premier League experience and physical presence, is brought in, Bamford’s opportunities would likely be reduced to not just near-zero but nothing at all. With Joel Piroe still in the picture and speculation around other names too, it’s hard to see where Bamford fits, particularly with Mateo Joseph and Harry Gray still emerging.

Joe Gelhardt's time at Leeds United looks up if Beto arrives from Everton

Joe Gelhardt is facing a different situation, but a similarly bleak outlook. After a loan stint at Hull City, the young forward is returning to a Leeds side where he’s struggled to breakthrough. And the club’s plans up top seem to be shifting away from giving him another chance.

If Leeds secure a striker of Beto’s calibre, then Gelhardt drops even further down the pecking order. There comes a point where development opportunities turn into stagnation, and Gelhardt himself seems to recognise that, with reports suggesting that he could be allowed to leave permanently.

It’s becoming clear that Leeds don’t see Gelhardt as part of their long-term attacking plan. And a marquee striker arrival would cement that stance.

A move for Beto would be the final nail for Patrick Bamford and Joe Gelhardt

With Leeds aggressively targeting a top-tier forward, and willing to back it financially, there’s little room left for sentiment. Beto’s arrival wouldn’t just be a signal of ambition, it would be a shift in the hierarchy that leaves Bamford and Gelhardt with no realistic shot at meaningful minutes.

If the club does land the Everton man, don’t be surprised to see exits follow quickly for both Bamford and Gelhardt.
