Newcastle United are exploring a move for Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott, with TeamTalk reporting that the Magpies have identified the 21-year-old as a key target ahead of the summer window. The club are looking to build on their EFL Cup triumph while navigating the complexities of Premier League financial rules.
Sources indicate Liverpool have approved Elliott’s sale “for the right price”, with the Reds opting not to publicise a fixed asking fee. Though a £40m figure has been mentioned in some quarters, insiders have clarified that Liverpool are leaving the door open for negotiation.

Elliott, a Liverpool supporter since childhood, is understood to be admired by Eddie Howe for both his technical ability and work ethic. According to TeamTalk, “It’s believed Elliott possesses the attitude and attributes the Newcastle manager wants in his squad.”

This aligns with Newcastle’s preference for investing in young, Premier League-proven talent at a fair price. The club remain mindful of PSR regulations and will not overextend financially, even after recent on-field success.
While Liverpool are not actively pushing Elliott out, the situation appears open-ended. Sources told TeamTalk that “Liverpool are not against holding on to Elliott but are willing to cash in in order to bolster what is already a significant transfer kitty.”
Elliott’s desire is reportedly to stay and fight for his place at Anfield. However, the arrival of Arne Slot and a major summer reshuffle could shift his role. If regular first-team football becomes elusive, the midfielder may have to consider a move to fulfil his ambitions.

For Newcastle, Elliott represents a strategic signing: Premier League ready, technically gifted, and versatile across midfield and attacking roles. For Liverpool, it’s a chance to streamline the squad and add to their transfer budget without public negotiation.
Harvey Elliott might not be the biggest name out there, but he’s got bags of talent, Champions League experience, and exactly the kind of character Eddie Howe builds his side around.
Let’s be honest — Newcastle don’t need galácticos, they need young players with something to prove, who’ve been in top environments and are hungry for more. Elliott ticks all of those boxes. He’s also versatile, and in a squad that’s contending on multiple fronts next season, that’s massive.
It’s smart business too. If they can get him at a fair price and avoid blowing up their wage structure, it’s a win-win.
