Manchester City face an uphill task this summer if they wish to pursue a deal for Newcastle United right-back Tino Livramento, new reports have revealed.

The England international full-back is understood to be on a shortlist of names identified by Hugo Viana and Txiki Begiristain at Manchester City ahead of the summer market as they look to bolster the right-sided role in defence.

Much of their interest in signing a new right-back will largely have been driven by the deterioration and pending exit of Kyle Walker, who penned a short-term exit in January and is expected to finalise a permanent move when the summer window opens.

For now, it remains to be seen whether the 34-year-old will persuade AC Milan to extend his stay at the San Siro longer-term, with the Italian giants understood to be holding reservations over their €5 million option to buy agreed with Manchester City upon the turn of the year.

While that situation rumbles on in the background, City officials are continuing their analysis of potential replacements, and while the likes of Flamengo’s Wesley and Juventus’ Nicolo Savona have been mooted in some quarters, their preferred option may be closer to home.

However, according to the information of The Northern Echo’s Scott Wilson, any attempt from Manchester City to pursue a deal for Newcastle United’s Tino Livramento will be ‘swiftly rebuffed’ this summer.

That is in large part due to the fact that the 22-year-old England international is a key part of the club’s future plans under both manager Eddie Howe and the rest of the Newcastle United recruitment team.

It also remains to be seen just how much of their budget Manchester City decide to allocate to signing a new right-back this summer, with work to do in a number of positions across Pep Guardiola’s squad.

The main focus when the window opens will likely centre around the middle of the park, where a direct replacement for Kevin De Bruyne is expected to be of utmost importance, with Florian Wirtz of Bayer Leverkusen the priority.

A new ‘No.8’ is also believed to be a priority for club officials and that search has led them in the direction of AC Milan and Netherlands international Tijjani Reijnders, with talks having been opened between the two clubs.
