Newcastle head to North London to take on Arsenal in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final this evening.

Eddie Howe has his sights set on ending Newcastle’s 70-year wait for a domestic trophy, though the Magpies have a huge challenge ahead of them at the Emirates.

The Magpies take on Arsenal in fine form, however, having extended their record to six straight wins at the weekend. Goals from Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak secured a 2-1 win at Spurs and kept Newcastle in the hunt for Champions League qualification.

Newcastle will look to eliminate London opposition for the fourth straight round after victories over Wimbledon, Chelsea and Brentford to reach this stage. Howe’s side are also aiming to reach their second Carabao Cup final in just three seasons, having lost the 2023 decider to Manchester United at Wembley. That fixture was the club’s first domestic cup final since 1999.

Eddie Howe provided an update on the fitness of Anthony Gordon and Sven Botman during his pre-match press conference on Monday. Howe said Gordon was in some ‘discomfort’ after a nasty collision with Tottenham’s Dejan Kulusevski at the weekend resulted in a gash on his nose. However, the 23-year-old is expected to feature at Arsenal.

Botman’s inclusion is less certain and the Dutch defender will be assessed. The centre-back made his first Newcastle appearance in 10 months at Spurs, after recovering from an ACL injury. A decision will be made on his involvement given the quick turnaround between games.

Jamaal Lascelles, Nick Pope, Callum Wilson and Emil Krafth remain on the absentee list for Newcastle.

Bruno Guimaraes and Fabian Schar are ruled out through suspension after receiving two bookings in the Carabao Cup this season.

Newcastle predicted lineup

Newcastle predicted XI: Dubravka; Livramento, Kelly, Burn, Hall; Longstaff, Tonali, Joelinton; Murphy, Isak, Gordon.
