‘No one can be happy’ – Mazzara criticises Milan squad for two things after Como game

Journalist Pietro Mazzara has questioned the decision of the AC Milan squad to not approach the Curva Sud at full-time, and the publication of a post-match photo from the dressing room.
Milan fell a goal behind against Como on Saturday evening, but they managed to come back and record a second consecutive Serie A win thanks to second half goals from Christian Pulisic and Tijjani Reijnders.
However, there was a rather sad ending to the game as the team left the field to jeers rather than celebrating with the fans. The Curva Sud announced before the game that their 15-minute protest would continue, and at full-time even after the win they criticised the team.
Mazzara published his weekly column for MilanNews in which he touched upon the importance of Christian Pulisic and Tijjani Reijnders plus the sporting director issue. He spoke about what happened after the full-time whistle in the Como gae.
“Jeers are the most civil form of protest, because they penetrate the soul and convey the idea that what the fan is seeing – paying a lot for a ticket or season ticket – does not like,” he began.
“The fan has the sacrosanct right to whistle at the players who wear the shirt of their favorite team, because in those whistles there is a sense of disappointment but also of love, first and foremost for the colours.
“At the end of Milan-Como, the Rossoneri players did not even approach the Curva Sud, which is continuing its protest in all areas of Milan, and it was seen with the naked eye how Mike Maignan, with the rank of captain, invited his teammates not to go towards the blue sector.
“A choice that did not go unnoticed, whose purpose – perhaps – was to protect the group from other whistles? We do not know this, because it is not given to know what the Sud would have done seeing the players arrive under the sector, but it seemed a reckless choice.
“Being the captain is not an easy thing and you have to read the situations, even the ones you don’t like… Milan are ninth and no one can be happy with what they are experiencing. Everyone is free to think what they want, but not even going towards it marked a potential breaking point…
“And the publication of the group photo, inside the dressing room, to celebrate the victory against Como seemed a bit out of place. For Milan, in any context, winning against Como must be normal and not an event to be celebrated as if you had won an important derby and a high-level match.
“The moment is particular, of course, but you must not get too excited, also because Como bulldozed Milan in the first 45 minutes of the game and the whistles – I repeat legitimate – at half-time were fully deserved.”
