Hull City FC have signed AS Monaco midfielder Eliot Matazo (22), both clubs have announced. The 22-year-old has put pen to paper over a three-and-a-half-year contract with the Tigers, who retain a club option for an additional year. Les Monégasques have reportedly agreed a €2m deal with the EFL Championship to sell the Belgium youth international. Matazo has struggled to establish himself at his formative club, making just two starts this season and just seven appearances in all competitions, despite Adi Hütter’s Les Monégasques competing on several fronts.
Matazo was absent from AS Monaco’s training session this Friday as it became clear his transfer to Hull City entered its final stages. Monaco’s Ligue 1 rivals FC Nantes were in the running to his signing, but Les Canaris fell short. “I’m very pleased to be here and very excited to start this new journey“, Matazo said. “It happened quickly. Hull City came to my agent and very quickly I had a talk with the manager, sporting director and president. The feeling was very positive and it was easy to make this choice.“
