Rennes have recalled centre-back Jérémy Jacquet (19), the Ligue 1 side have announced. The 19-year-old Academy graduate spent the first half of the season at Ligue 2 side Clermont Foot 63. Jacquet already joined Clermont on loan in January 2024 in search of regular football away from his formative club. Jacquet featured 17 times in Ligue 2 with the Auvergne side and proved a regular starter for the relegated Ligue 1 side. L’Equipe understands that Rennes had to pay Clermont €900k to bring back their own loanee for a deadline-day recall.
In taking into account Jacquet’s recall, Rennes have now signed three different centre-backs in the winter transfer window. Les Rouge et Noir have previously signed Brest’s Lilian Brassier on loan from Brest – after an ill-fated stint at Marseille – and Stuttgart’s Anthony Rouault. “Dear supporters, my formative club decided to recall me and I agreed to come back”, Jacquet said in Clermont’s statement. “I wanted to thank you all for the encouragement and support that you have given me since last season. I also thank the various coaches and members of the staff that I had for all the advice, as well as all the people who contributed to my success. I am proud to have worn the Clermont jersey.”
