Only four games in March: Conceicao hoping for turnaround amid slimmed schedule | OneFootball

Since Sergio Conceicao arrived just before the new year, AC Milan have played 16 games in all competitions. This month, however, the schedule is much more favourable and the manager is thus hoping for a turnaround.

The aforementioned 16 games have been played in the space of nine weeks, with an average of 1.7 games every week (it will increase with tomorrow’s game). A mid-week clash here and there doesn’t cause too many issues, but to have them more or less every week is a different beast.

Fortunately, the schedule for March only includes four games and while that is because of the failure in the Champions League, it’s also due to an international break. Lazio and Napoli are the two big games, so having more time to prepare for these is certainly positive.

As Conceicao also stated during his Milan-Lazio press conference earlier today, it will make a huge difference for his approach on the training ground. While the work so far has mostly been focused on recovery and analysing opponents, he will now be able to work more on his team.

It might be too little too late, though, as the Rossoneri are eight points behind top four as things stand and six points behind the Europa League. They also don’t have a game in hand anymore, which would have made a big difference.
