It’s been more than a week since Chelsea’s last game, so we’ve been starved of information directly from manager Enzo Maresca on the status of the team’s numerous injured played.
This afternoon he took his press conference ahead of the Conference League game against Copenhagen and gave a solid update on some of the missing players, starting in defence.
“They are both ready,” Maresca answered when asked about the fitness of Trevoh Chalobah and Benoit Badiashile, both of whom were spotted in training photos this week.
“Trev was not something serious so he is OK. Benoit has been training in the past week or 10 days, probably even more. Wes[ley Fofana] is not in the squad but also he is back. Romeo [Lavia] has started to train with us in the last two days. Slowly, slowly, we are getting players back and ready for the final rush of the season.”

Badiashile has been out for a while, so we don’t expect him to start, but Chalobah should be ready. Fofana and Lavia have been out for a long time, and even though they’re now training we don’t expect them to start even in the second leg of this tie next week – it makes more sense to save them until after the international break later this month.
Asked how much of a boost the return of some big names is, Maresca confirmed he was expecting much improved results with so many players coming back:
“We said already a few times, unfortunately our bad moment started with the amount of injuries but some of them are already back and in the process to be back. It is a huge boost for me and for the players.”
