There are some players earning big money at Arsenal right now, and they’re not living up to their reputations unfortunately.

Arteta will undoubtedly be ruthless in the upcoming January and summer windows, when it comes to moving on some of the underperforming players.

The Gunners boss is fully aware of the standards required to win the Premier League title and the Champions League.

However, one man who has actually been in fine form for Arsenal this season is looking likely to leave the Emirates.

That said, it could actually end up benefitting the Gunners…

According to a report from The Mirror, Arsenal have reluctantly accepted that Thomas Partey will leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the season.

That’s because he’s free to open talks with foreign clubs from January 1st.

However, this isn’t anything to be concerned about. Moving Partey on will 100 per cent be the correct call, even if it doesn’t feel like that right now.

It’s no coincidence that Partey’s incredible form this season began when he entered the final year of his contract.

You know what they say about players upping their levels in order to get that one last mega-deal.

The 31-year-old has endured horrendous injury problems during his time with the Gunners, and he currently earns a whopping £200k-a-week (Spotrac).

Since moving to the Emirates from Atletico Madrid in 2020, Partey has missed 81 games through injury.

That’s simply not good enough considering how much he’s earning. Yes, the Ghana international has remained injury free this season, and has been a key player for Arteta.

However, who’s to say he won’t suffer more injuries after singing a new deal?

There are obviously no guarantees regarding that, but moving his huge salary off the wage-bill should provide Arsenal with the opportunity to bring in someone far more durable and athletic than Thomas Partey.

The former Atletico Madrid midfielder moving on from the north London outfit as a free agent in the summer of 2025 might actually make Arsenal a better team in the long run.
